Whenever any instance of inaction, corruption, infliction of torture, abuse of authority, or illegal detention by the police comes to the notice of the District Magistrate, he shall have the authority to direct the Superintendent of Police to conduct an immediate inquiry and report the result along with the necessary documents. If the investigation results in the conviction of any member of the police force, the District Magistrate shall have the authority to direct the Superintendent of Police to initiate disciplinary action against him. He shall also advise on the adequacy or otherwise of the punishment to be imposed as a result of disciplinary action. The District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police shall jointly review all such complaints and the action taken thereon every month.
