Section 44 · Paragraph 41. Special duties of field inspectors

The Circle Inspector shall also have the following duties:
(1) He shall keep the Superintendent informed of any occurrence in each Circle which, in the interest of administration, ought to be known to the Superintendent or District Magistrate. In particular, he shall report any feeling of opposition to the measures of the Government, and any agitation, terror, or rumour which, if not suppressed, may become disastrous.
(2) He shall assume command of the police force when suppressing a riot or otherwise actively maintaining order, if he is the senior police officer present.
(3) He shall also maintain a diary of his activities in Form 3 and a confidential note book for recording all matters which he wishes to bring to the attention of the Superintendent but which he cannot adequately describe in his inspection report.
(4) To inspect shops licensed under the Arms and Explosives Acts (see pages 61-62 of the Explosives Manual (1908) and paragraph 28 (4) of the Indian Arms Rules, 1924).
(5) To report to the Superintendent the conduct of the police subordinate to him in his division and the manner in which they perform their duties and to make such preliminary inquiries into departmental matters as the Superintendent may direct.
