UP Police Regs 540Chapter 34 · Transfers
Section 540 · Paragraph 520. Transfer of Gazetted Officers
Text size — level 1 of 4
(1) Transfers of gazetted officers are made by the State Government.
(2) The Inspector General of Police is authorized by Government Order to transfer all Deputy Superintendents of Police to non-permitted posts within the State.
(3) The Inspector General of Police may transfer any non-gazetted officer within the State.
(4) The Deputy Inspector General of Police of a Range may transfer any non-gazetted officer within his or her jurisdiction.
(5) Transfers that require officers to be away from their homes should not be made, except when it is necessary to eliminate undesirable contacts or to remove them from areas where their integrity is questionable. Officers above the rank of constable should generally not be allowed to stay in the districts where they reside or own land. As far as possible, postings should be avoided in districts adjacent to their original district. Constables should also be kept to the minimum possible number in such districts.
Inspectors, sub-inspectors, and assistant sub-inspectors should not be allowed to remain in any one district for more than six years and at any one police station for more than three years. Head constables should not be allowed to remain in any particular district for more than ten years and at any particular police station for more than five years. In the Terai region (which includes the Terai and Bhawar areas), inspectors, sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, head constables, and constables should not be posted for more than five years. Generally, no officer should be reappointed to the same district, and in any case, before the expiry of the five-year period from his last appointment.
