Section 227 · Paragraph 218. Register of fugitive offenders at the police station
Text size — level 1 of 4
In every police station, a register shall be maintained in Form No. 214, in which the names and full particulars of all absconding offenders, both cognizable and non-cognizable, shall be entered. Persons falling under Classes A and B shall be shown separately. Every Class A absconding offender shall be shown in the register of each police station in which his wife, father, mother, sons, daughters, brothers, or sisters reside, and in the register of the police station (1) in which he himself resides, and (2) in which the crime for which he is wanted has been committed. It shall be the duty of the Superintendent of the district in which the crime has been committed to inform the Superintendents of other districts in which he should be registered by reason of his residence or connections. Upon receipt of such information, those Superintendents shall register the names of the absconding offenders in their districts. Class B absconding offenders shall be required to be registered only in the police stations to which they belong. The register or column 17 must be maintained, and whenever a relative or companion of an absconding criminal changes his address, the station house officer shall inform the Superintendent. If the crime for which the absconding person is wanted was committed in his district, the Superintendent shall pass the information to all other districts and station houses concerned; otherwise, he shall inform the Superintendent of the district in which the crime was committed, and the latter officer shall then inform all relatives.
