Section 154 · Paragraph 147. Procedure for arrest without warrant by a police officer

A person may cause the arrest of a person whom he is empowered to arrest under Section 41(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure by giving such information to a constable enrolled under the Police Act (Fifth of 1961) as may justify the arrest of such person in exercise of his powers under that section. For the purposes of Section 41(1), a telegram may be deemed to contain credible information relating to the commission of a cognizable offence by a police station officer or an officer conducting an investigation under Chapter XII of the Code of Criminal Procedure. An officer in charge of a police station may cause the arrest of a person whom he is empowered to arrest under Section 41 by giving a written order under Section 55 to any officer subordinate to him. An officer in charge of a police station may always issue an order under Section 55 against a person whom he is empowered to arrest under Section 41.
