UP Police Regs 351Chapter 27 · Duties under Special Acts and Rules
Section 351 · Paragraph 342. Procedure when a fugitive is apprehended by the police
Text size — level 1 of 4
When a fugitive is apprehended by the police, the Superintendent of Police should notify his commanding officer of his apprehension and simultaneously inform the commanding officer of the full name and address of the person to whom the reward is payable. As soon as the fugitive reaches his unit, the commanding officer shall immediately remit the amount of the reward by money order to the person entitled thereto, the acknowledgement of which money order shall be deemed sufficient proof of the amount paid by the examining officers as reward and the money order fee. The police officer or constable to whom the reward is payable should inform the office of the Superintendent of Police when he receives the money order for the reward so that any delay in payment can be pointed out to the Commanding Officer of the unit concerned.
Commanding officers of units will ensure that there is no delay in remitting the reward amount payable for the capture of army deserters and that the reward amount is remitted as soon as the deserter rejoins the unit. Commanding officers of units will, while enforcing the advance, pay such amount from their own advance. In cases where the necessary funds cannot be sent immediately due to the unavailability of funds, the deserter may rejoin his unit, the Commanding Officer of the unit may authorise the police authority to pay the amount from the Police Fund under Indian Army Orders No. 2095/44 published under Notification No. VI/56-43, dated 8th December, 1944, in the Police Gazette of 13th December, 1944, pages 253 and 254. The amount so paid from the Police Fund should be subsequently credited to the Controller of Military Accounts concerned.
