Section 555 · Paragraph 535. Practical training during the probationary period

During their probationary period, they will be required to undergo a course of practical training in all branches of police work as follows:
(1) They will be attached to a police station at or near headquarters, where they will-
(a) learn the conventions of police work, including the distribution of duties, the preparation of reports, the general diary and other station registers, and the completion of methodological drafts of surveillance and patrolling.
(b) Probationers will receive instruction in the general duties of station house officers, including investigations, the preparation of case diaries, and death review reports, accompanied by a competent officer, for at least six investigations.
(c) They will be assigned simple cases for investigation without delay. During this period, they will be under the special superintendence of the Inspector-in-Charge of the city or division where they are posted, who will submit periodic reports on each probationer under his command.
(2) They will spend a few weeks in the office of the Superintendent of Police, where they will work under the orders of the Superintendent of Police, preparing diaries and other papers for orders.
(3) They will be attached to offices for a few weeks, where they will be instructed to examine police papers in cases sent for prosecution and, during that period, to prosecute under the superintendence of the Public Prosecutor. They will also be instructed in the duties of a Criminal/Tribal Sub-Inspector.
(4) They will receive instruction in exercise, inspection, posting and relieving guards, marking lines on roads, parking vehicles, and other miscellaneous duties of the reserve line. Probationary Sub-Inspectors stationed at Troop Headquarters should keep themselves proficient in equitation and attend riding school regularly.
