Section 549 · Paragraph 529. Deputy Superintendents appointed by promotion to be placed on probation for one year

Deputy Superintendents appointed by promotion will be on probation for one year and will be posted to the district upon appointment. They will not be required to attend any training or pass any examination, but will be required to obtain a certificate, signed by the Superintendent of Police and countersigned by the Deputy Inspector General, stating that they can supervise the work of the Chief Clerk and Accountant, are well-versed in the police accounting system, and can efficiently conduct departmental proceedings under Section 7 of the Police Act. Except for those promoted from the rank of Reserve Inspector, the certificate obtained by an officer will also include a clause stating that they can efficiently supervise the work of Reserve Inspectors.
The rules for training and examination of directly appointed Deputy Superintendents are set out in Part II of the Police Training College Manual.
The training of directly appointed Deputy Superintendents of Police in the district will be the same as that prescribed for Assistant Superintendents of Police in paragraph 528.
The report of probationary Deputy Superintendents of both categories shall be forwarded by the Superintendent of Police through the District Magistrate to the Inspector General of Police who, after consultation with the Inspector General, shall forward the report with his recommendation to the Chief Secretary to the Government.
