Text size — level 1 of 4
A list of Head Constables of Mounted Police approved for promotion to the rank of Sub-Inspector of Mounted Police will be maintained at Police Headquarters. Head Constables with less than three years of service as Head Constables and not exceeding 40 years of age will be nominated for inclusion in this list. In exceptional cases, the Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Range will nominate Head Constables up to 45 years of age with exceptional merit. Those so nominated will appear in a central departmental examination prescribed by the Inspector General of Police. Only those selected as a result of this examination will be included in the approved list.
All vacancies in the rank of Sub-Inspector of Mounted Police will be filled by the Deputy Inspector General of Police at Headquarters by promoting Head Constables in order of seniority whose names are included in the approved list. Temporary vacancies of less than three years duration shall be filled by the Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Range by promoting an approved candidate from his Range.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police of the Range may recommend the removal from the approved list of any Head Constable who, on the basis of his subsequent work and conduct, is considered unsuitable for promotion. However, such Head Constable may be considered for re-inclusion in the approved list if he possesses all the qualifications for reappearing in the Central Departmental Examination prescribed for this purpose.
