UP Police Regs 338Chapter 26 · Instructions for the Guidance of Police Officers in Times of Famine
Section 338 · Paragraph 329. Action to be taken when a traveller comes to the police station in distress
Text size — level 1 of 4
When a wanderer arrives at the police station in distress, he or she should be fed if he or she requires food and directed or taken to the nearest shelter or relief facility. If he or she refuses to go to the relief center despite being able to walk, he or she should not be fed as a wanderer, and should be encouraged to travel to the police station to receive food and avoid shelters. Travel expenses to the shelter may be paid in advance if the wanderer is too weak to walk. Food provided at the police station should be of a type deemed appropriate by the police station in-charge, given the wanderer's condition. Weak individuals should be given food that is easily digestible. Those who are able to care for themselves may be given food or, as they deem best, money to purchase food. The cost of food or money given in lieu thereof shall not exceed the allowance for dependents prescribed by Para 128 (a) of the Revised Famine Code, Uttar Pradesh, 1912.
