Section 132 · Paragraph 127. Production of Postal Department records before the police

The following instructions have been issued by the Government to the Postal Department. (See Police Gazette of March 18, 1891) "Production of Records before the Police."
On the written order of a police officer conducting an investigation under the Code of Criminal Procedure, the records of the Postal Department may be produced and available information disclosed, but only those entries in the records which relate to the accused or accused or are relevant to the crime under investigation should be disclosed. In any other case, the Postmaster should without delay refer the matter to the Postmaster General for orders, who will decide whether the information sought under Section 124 of the Indian Evidence Act (1 of 1872) should be withheld.
Note:
When the information sought by the police officer is not available in the post office records, the police officer should be informed accordingly, regardless of whether the available information could have been provided under the preceding rule.
