Section 221 · Paragraph 212. Permission for police officer to stop and travel on goods train

Not more than two police officers of any line are authorized to extraordinary stop any goods train of the Indian Railways and travel in its brake van to transport any prisoner, if -
(a) the prisoner is in danger of being released;
(b) the prisoner requires medical attention which cannot be obtained on the spot;
(c) the prisoner cannot be detained in the lock-up before dark. If a passenger train is awaited. The Superintendent of Police should impress upon the officers and persons concerned that these concessions should not be misused.
Note - The practice of such a facility has been discontinued as a practice in India at present.
