Section 440 · Paragraph 429. Determination of seniority of Indian Police Officers
Text size — level 1 of 4
For officers of the Indian Police appointed after September 1894 and not promoted from the rank of Inspector, seniority is determined by the following rules:
For officers appointed between June 1, 1903, and April 3, 1918:
(1) On attaining the rank of Superintendent, they shall be placed in the rank list in accordance with the order of their appointment to the Service, and not with the date of their success in passing the departmental examination, provided that officers appointed by the Secretary of State in the same year shall be placed proportionately in the order in which they passed the competitive examination. For officers appointed after April 3, 1918—
(2) Assistant Superintendents of Police shall retain their original seniority without regard to the date of passing the departmental examination, but officers who fail to pass these departmental examinations within two years from the date of their appointment shall be liable to be discharged from service. In special cases, the local government may exempt an officer from passing any part of the departmental examination or extend the period within which such examination must be passed. In such cases, the local government may, at its discretion, withhold any increment to which the officer would have been entitled if he had passed the examination, or grant such increments without regard to the fact that he did not pass the examination.
Officers appointed under the Reorganization Scheme of 1919-20 or under the Press Release of November 1, 1912, shall be classified according to age, without regard to the date of passing the departmental examination.
