यह परिभाषा अधिनियम की परिभाषा-धारा से ली गई है।
अभिप्रेत है ऐसे क्षेत्र में, जहां कुटुंब न्यायालय अधिनियम, 1984 (1984 का 66) की धारा 3 के अधीन स्थापित कुटुंब न्यायालय विद्यमान है, ऐसा कुटुंब न्यायालय और किसी ऐसे क्षेत्र में जहां कुटुंब न्यायालय नहीं है, किंतु कोई नगर सिविल न्यायालय विद्यमान है वहां वह
परिभाषा इस धारा में दी गई है
