Section 17 · Punishment for wrongful demarcation of forest lands

- Whoever, being an officer responsible for giving demarcation of boundaries of private and Government forests for the purpose of felling of trees in the private forests or for any other purpose intentionally or knowingly gives wrong demarcation so as to cause loss to the Government shall be punished with imprisonment of either description which shall not be less than one year but which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine: Provided that the court may, for any special reason to be recorded in writing, impose a sentence of imprisonment of less than one year.
