Section 55 · Qualifications, etc., of Chairperson and Members of the National Commission

(1) The Central Government may, by notification, make rules to provide for the qualifications, appointment, tenure, salaries and allowances, resignation, removal and other terms and conditions of service of the Chairperson and Members of the National Commission:
Provided that the Chairperson and Members of the National Commission shall hold office for such term as may be specified in rules made by the Central Government, but such term shall not exceed five years from the date on which they enter upon their offices, and shall be eligible for reappointment:
Provided further that no Chairperson or Member shall hold office after he has attained such age as may be specified in rules made by the Central Government, which shall be,
(a) not exceeding the age of seventy years in the case of the Chairperson;
(b) not exceeding the age of sixty-six years in the case of any other Member.
(2) Neither the salaries and allowances nor the other terms and conditions of service of the Chairperson and Members of the National Commission shall be varied to their disadvantage after their appointment.
Provided that the Chairperson and Members of the National Commission shall hold office for such term as may be specified in rules made by the Central Government, but such term shall not exceed five years from the date on which they enter upon their offices, and shall be eligible for reappointment:
Provided further that no Chairperson or Member shall hold office after he has attained such age as may be specified in rules made by the Central Government, which shall be,
(a) not exceeding the age of seventy years in the case of the Chairperson;
(b) not exceeding the age of sixty-six years in the case of any other Member.
(2) Neither the salaries and allowances nor the other terms and conditions of service of the Chairperson and Members of the National Commission shall be varied to their disadvantage after their appointment.
