Offences punishable with 7 years or more

Seven years is a threshold the Code uses in several places, and it is easy to read the wrong way round. BNSS s.35(1)(b) covers a cognizable offence punishable with a term which may be less than seven years or which may extend to seven years, and s.35(3) requires a notice of appearance instead of arrest in every such case where arrest is not required under s.35(1). So an offence punishable with a term that may extend to seven years is inside that notice regime, not below it. This list is drawn at seven years or more, so it holds that boundary and everything above it.
